Product properties

colour

The main components of the F-60 adhesive are natural dolomite aggregates whose selection criteria are not the colour but the grain size fraction, hence the colour of each batch of the product may slightly differ – from cream to light grey.

Flexibility

A characteristic feature of polymer adhesives is their enormous flexibility, which is incomparably larger than most flexible gypsum adhesives. While gypsum adhesives formability of 5 mm is considered very high and is classified according to the class S2, which stands for highly deformable adhesives, the F-60 adhesive offers at least 3-fold deformability, which is more than 15 mm. Therefore, wherever the use of flexible adhesives is recommended, the F-60 adhesive ensures the highest performance in this area.

Work comfort

F-60 adhesive is ready for use immediately after opening the bucket. It increases significantly the comfort of use and saves the working time, which results from omission of a number of activities related to the preparation of cement mortar, such as: water pouring, dry mortar dosing, connecting the mixer to the power supply, mixing, re-mixing waiting time, mixers cleaning and finally cleaning up the mixers after work. This takes up to 10% of the time required by a qualified tiler.

Adhesion

F-60 adhesion measured after 14 days of aging at the temperature of 21-25ºC and at relative humidity from 45 to 50% shows a strength of at least 150% of the requirements.

Setting time

The adhesive setting time strictly depends on the pace the water evaporates from the mortar, which in turn depends mainly on the amount of adhesive used per unit area, the kind and moisture content, thickness of the joints as well as temperature and humidity. Adhesive setting process begins along the joint where the tiles are easily stabilized by mortar however the adhesive bonding time under the entire tiles surface takes much longer and depends, in most cases, on the tiles size and surface. At the temperature of ca. 20°C and with the use of a 4 mm smoothing float, the light load can be applied after about 48 hours, whereas the full mechanical strength of the surface is obtained after at least 14 days. NOTE: At the temperature below 8°C, the setting process does not occur at all. Despite evaporation of water from the mortar, an adequate internal cohesion and adhesion to the surface is not achieved by the product.

open time

The open time means the time of delay from the moment the adhesive is placed on a tile until the tile is placed on the surface, maintaining adequate adhesion after setting time. Adhesives that meet the requirements of adhesion after open time of 30 minutes are considered as the “E” Class i.e. adhesives with extended open time. F-60 adhesive meets these requirements in 180%.

Resistance to water

Dried and bonded F-60 adhesive after a short immersion in water, e.g. when washing the tiles’ surface or as a result of the emergency flooding of walls, the adhesive does not lose its performance parameters. However, a long-term retention in water will affect the reduction of hardness and gradual reduction of adhesion. Strength testing after 14 days of immersion in water shows a significant grip reduction below the requirements.

ŚMIG F-60 - Tile Adhesive

ŚMIG F-60 is a modern polymer adhesive designed for instant installation on the walls of all types of tiles and cladding. Flexible and frost resistant. Tiles can be adhered to all types of substrates. Its unique advantages can be observed on such deformable surfaces as chipboards or gypsum boards

how to use

1. SURFACE PREPARATION

The adhesive shall be applied to clean, dry, stable and level surface. The degree of unevenness should not exceed 2 mm over a length of 2 m. If the surface unevenness is greater than mentioned above, it should be levelled by means of a suitable levelling mass. F-60 adhesive should not be used for surface levelling. Before the tiles are placed on the surface, make sure that the surface is completely dry and properly cured. If the surface is dusty or should be strengthened, it should be primed beforehand. The primer improves the adhesion of tiles in almost every case. The effectiveness of this treatment depends on the type of surface – the weaker the surface the use of a primer is more purposeful, but it should be noted that the application of waterproofing or priming the surface extends drying and adhesive stabilization time

2. SCOPE OF APPLICATION

F-60 adhesive is intended for fixing all types of construction tiles, regardless of the material they are made of. Its excellent viscosity allows for adhesion of both ordinary ceramic and polished tiles, natural stone – including marble and a variety of decorative elements made of cement, conglomerates, plastics and synthetic stone. The special properties of the product allow sticking the tiles on each stable, even and absorbent construction base. Unique features are clearly visible when applied the adhesive onto the deformable surfaces such as plasterboards and OSB.

F-60 adhesive can be used to glue both small and large tiles. The adhesive is frost proof hence is also recommended for outdoor applications but only in places where the tiles’ surface is not exposed to water retention and where the wall is protected against capillary penetration of moisture.

3. APPLICATION

The adhesive manufacturer recommends using a notched trowel for application to obtain deeply grooved surface. The size of the teeth must be adapted to the size of the tiles and the surface absorbency. The recommended size of the teeth is 4-8 mm for wall coverings. It is definitely not recommended to wet the tiles nor the surface, or to dilute the adhesive with water. Tiles must be with a grout and pressed to the surface in a moderate way, so as to leave the ventilation ducts. Excessive downforce will create a “cake” of the adhesive under the tile, which shall greatly extend the drying time. The tiles laying method using the socalled “cakes” makes drying of tiles impossible. The joints shall be grouted only when the tiles are well stabilized, but not earlier than after 24 hours.

Product Use Limitations
The main limitation of the F-60 adhesive use concerns places where there is no possibility of water evaporation from the mortar and thus the proper process of binding the polymer binder becomes impossible. As it comes to interiors, at correct humidity level, such danger does not exist as, even in extreme cases, which applies to not very absorbent tiles laid on a non-absorbent surface, the water evaporates over time through the joints. Please note that the use on non-absorbent surface (old tiles, tightly cured concrete, etc.), the tiles stabilization period as well as the ability of non-heavy loading of such tiles is significantly extended, thus the manufacturer does not recommend the use of the F-60 adhesive on non-absorbent surfaces. However, in places such as swimming pools, paddling pools, terraces, balconies and all exposed outer walls, where the tiles are often or permanently immersed in water or exposed to retention of melting snow, the use of the F-60 adhesive is strictly prohibited. The use of the adhesive in places such as facades, covered floors located outside or the shower cabin walls is acceptable because the tiles and jointed welds sufficiently protect the adhesive from water penetration when its long-term retention is not possible. Any levelling of the surface with the F-60 adhesive is not allowed as evaporation is a long-term process.
Packaging
The product is sold in plastic buckets of 5, 15 and 18 kg Buckets should be stored in a dry room at 0°C to +30°C, preferably on pallets. It is prohibited to stack pallets. Failure to comply with the requirement may result in damage to the product and people in the vicinity are in danger of losing their lives or health.
Guarantee
The product is suitable for use up to 12 months after the manufacturing date printed on the packaging. During the period, the manufacturer guarantees that the product maintains its properties, provided storage conditions are complied with and the product is applied according to its intended use, guidelines, and common construction rules and OHS standards. The product has its Properties Declaration and it is certified by the Hygiene Authority.
